SMLE Nosecaps
Anyone know the official date for the modification of No1 Mk III nosecaps by putting holes in both of the front sight protecting wings so that the sight blades could be adjusted without removing the nosecap?
I've looked in Skennerton but can't find it.
Ta muchly inantip.

Skennerton states 1944 was when it was introduced into the production process. However he does say it might be related to favourable experience with the No 4 so possible earlier as a workshop level initiative ?

Graeme,
Could you give me the page number as I can't find much in the index? What prompts the ? is that on the ABC programme 'Kokoda' last night a modified nose cap poped up quite clearly.
I do like attention to detail

Kokoda, yeah I caught the last half of it. Was the nosecap you noted in the documentary section or the archival footage ? I'm guessing from your comment it was the documentary bit. I tend to pay more attention to the archival parts for things like that.
Which edition of Skennerton have you got ? In the latest it is page 339, right hand column, paragraph 5 just under a drawing of it.
If you have the second edition its page 311, right hand column, paragraph 2, above the drawing.
If you've got the first edition you're on your own.
BTW I'll be up at Garys for 4 or 5 days from about the 26th/27th May, wouldn't mind catching up with you then.

Yeah Gary I'll bring the Hornet and you're welcome to play. I'll bring the beer & the popcorn for Kokoda.
