WTK ? on Webley marking

Post by Elmer » Sat Jul 23, 2005 7:07 am

Friend picked up a very nice Webley Mk VI in 455.

On the barrel is a circle mark divided in to 3 equal areas with what appears to be AB7 inside the circle.

Any ideas on this marking would be appreciated. Thanks David.

Geezuz. With all the Webley Mk VI's on-line, there doesn't seem to be a single site for their markings. Lots of pictures and revolvers for sale, but diddly about the markings. however, as it's on the barrel, I'm thinking it's a proof mark of some flavour. Not that that helps much. This book may help. Not on-line though.

Sounds like a date of proof mark, is it lightly struck?

Any chance of a photo?

mark on Webley

I am unable to get a photo at this time. Revolver belongs to friend.

However here is a drawing of the mark. It was about 9mm in diameter and appears on the left side barrel flat ahead of cylinder.

Yep that looks like proof date, some one wrote out for me the codes therein but I can't find it at present, it was hand written.

WTK Webley mark

According to Guns Review of June 1981, in an article by Udo E Troster, the mark signifies a gun inspected in 1975, by the 7th senior inspector. (Finally got some use out my old pack-rattery).

And the B signifies Birmingham proof house, bisley?

Yes, "B" for Birmingham, and I left an "of" out of my last sentence.
