Passing of Roy Smith
It is with great sadness that I report of the passing of SSAA life member and New South Wales Member of the Legislative Council Roy Smith. Aged just 56, Roy died in his sleep at his Sydney family home.
Roy made his love of the outdoors, shooting and hunting both his recreation and occupation. He joined the SSAA in 1978 and in his lifetime, he served on the New South Wales Board of the SSAA and the Sydney Branch. His most recent position with SSAA NSW was his employment as its Executive Officer. He also served on the Board of SSAA National as its National Secretary and was made a life member of SSAA National in 2005.
In 2007, Roy was elected to the Upper House of the New South Wales Parliament, where he advocated the recreation of shooting and hunting to the benefit of his state’s outdoorsmen and women.
Our deepest condolences go to Roy’s family and in particular, his wife Pauline and sons Carl and Nicolas.
Roy was a friend and a great bloke.
