Yeah Peter, if you didnt buy it you would regret it!!!!! Decent G98's are hard to come by. I have only seen one here, and its owned by a friend. I have never saw one for sale. You can never have too many guns.

Done the deal

Post by PeterN2 » Sat Nov 10, 2007 6:01 pm

Well, the deal is done and I collected the rifle yesterday. I have been giving it a good close look over and given the bore a brush out. It is not at all bad for a 93 year old rifle. I am very pleased with it. Everything that has a number matches, except for the cleaning rod. It came with 87 rounds of Prvi ammo, 400 odd bullets and .300 odd once fired boxer cases. It will be next month before I get to shoot it, so time to load up a few rounds.

I also got a War Office .22 training rifle from the same chap. It is a BSA dated 1908 that looks almost like new. I paid him £55 for that so I thought that was a good deal. That will be subject to a seperate post when I get a few pics taken.

The wife chuntered a bit about buying two rifles at once, but I persuaded her they were an investment and not an expence.

Regards

Peter.

Peter ; If it was'nt such a hassle between the pond to get it 'over here' I'd offer you a gorgeous 1911 SMLE marked to the KRR in swap. But I think it's found a good home - won't be turned into a lamp like some deac mullet head !.

When I run into a #29 rod I'll give you a shout.

Cleaning rod

Post by PeterN2 » Fri Dec 14, 2007 6:11 pm

Thanks for the offer of the SMLE. The number on the rod I have is 46 or 49, I'll have to check. It is a pity the rod got swapped out but I think It is fortunate that the rest of the rifle stayed together for nearly 100 years. I have no plans to dispose of this rifle in the near future so it will be a while before it goes to anyone else.

Regards

Peter.
