I made (more) wood grips for my Enfield No2 Mk1

Post by thundermug » Sat Jan 08, 2011 10:20 pm

As many of you know, original wood grips for the Enfield revolver are hard to find, and no one (I know of) makes wood repros. I decided to make my own out of walnut. The hardware came from Brownells. I tried to stay as true to the original design as possible. I'm still deciding on a shade of stain. Hats off to those who do professional checkering. It must take many years to become proficient. I just got my checkering tools a couple weeks ago. I will keep at it.

Looks like you are on the right path to a good reproduction of the grips. I guess the stain and final finishing will be the proof of how good you did. Show us a picture when you get it finished. Drake has an excellent original that would be terrific if you can come close to the looks of......as you no doubt noticed.

Wonder why the originals were single hatch rather than double?

I referenced Drakes photos quite a bit. There is another style that Enfield made with diamond checkering. I will try those after I get more walnut.

I stained the grips and distressed them a little. Here is the finished product:
