The Patriot Act

Post by Niner » Fri May 27, 2011 10:06 am

In the US we have created "terrorist" prisons for suspects, which we put in foreign countries, like Cuba. We have waterboarding as a tool that we may or may not be continuing to use to gather information. We have military courts because civilian ones can't be trusted to convict without any credible evidence or evidence tainted by torture. We have assassination teams that capture and kill terrorists and dump them in the ocean.....all in the name of protecting us from "terrorists". And, although the most staunch civil libertarian is not likely to get very upset that Osama got two bullets in the head and sleeps with the fishes, Godfather style, it does say something about how we define justice now days. The recent rush to continue the Patriot Act, by a great majority of the politians that we elected to freely give away our otherwise protected rights is now a fact. However, this act of evident fear of the dark also had one provision that could be potentially used against gun owners and collectors who are totally innocent of any potential for acts against the government. However, our patriotic NRA defenders had no problem with voting down a possible amendment to the Patriot Act that should have been of concern to them.
Paul agreed to let the bill go forward after he was given a vote on two amendments to rein in government surveillance powers. Both were soundly defeated. The more controversial, an amendment that would have restricted powers to obtain gun records in terrorist investigations, was defeated 85-10 after lawmakers received a letter from the National Rifle Association stating that it was not taking a position on the measure.
Of course, what do we have to worry? They will only investigate Moslem's and people who have names that sound Moslem or who are "lone wolves". Hey, and why not check out the Mexican names too... there is a big problem with guns and Mexican cartels you know. They are terrorists of a sort, aren't they? And while the patriotic US forces of secrecy are at it.......who else would be interesting for them to check out? I'm not worried. What's giving up some constitutional rights in order to capture a few terrorists and put them in Guantanamo and throw away the key? They would never use that act against me. Of course I probably should not pop off about listening to Ted Nugent.....just to be on the safe side. You just can't trust those liberals you know. They don't believe in free speech for real Americans like we do. But no use attracting attention to yourself. Just to be on the safe side.

Check out Ted Nugent. Good for him that his last name isn't Abdullah. I could see him in Guantanamo in a heart beat.
