#5 front sight pusher

Post by Brass Rat » Tue Aug 16, 2005 6:27 am

While preparing for my last match I spent quite a bit of time making sure that the windage was set correctly on my #5.

As far as elevation goes the #4 & #5 rifles have what I consider the best production sites I've used, windage however, as on most milsurp rifles, is another thing entirely. I know, once set it should never have to be adjusted again, but it seems to me that it doesn't always work out that way.

I ended up using my SKS sight pusher, it just fit across the #5 sight guard and made fine adjustments possible.

You have to do it in very small increments, a quarter turn sent the POI nearly off the paper at 100 yards.

Now there's an interesting post Curtis.

I have a No4 and a SMLE cramp but not a No 5 and didn't even think about it.

Now somewhere in my mind there is a nagging idea that I once knew something about No 5 foresight adjusters, but it isn't retrievable at present.

Skennerton in his SAIS series shows a No 4 cramp but no cranp in the No 5 book.

No5 front sight adjuster

Post by Strangely Brown » Tue Aug 16, 2005 5:31 pm

There are plans afoot to re-manufacture the No 5 sight adjuster by some members of LERA, the secretary has one and has offered it to another member as a template.

I will post more of this when it happens although I understand they will be offered for sale in the LERA news sheet "Dispatches".

I think I have only ever seen one for sale and LERA's secretary beat me to it!

front sight pusher

How does a No.5 front sight differ from a No.4 front sight?I'm sorry to say I do not own a No.5 at this time or I'd probably be working on this.

Stan, the front sight guard on a #5 is part of the flash supressor assembly and is not removable.

No 5 Sight adjuster

Post by Strangely Brown » Wed Aug 17, 2005 7:50 am

Sorry Adam I don't have a picture of one, however it is not too disimilar to the No 4 adjuster being slightly rounder and fatter in appearance to clear the muzzle flash eliminator.

And probably a doddle for an engineer to make up.

Here is the SKS sight pusher on the #5 front sight, it works great and they can be had for around $7.

Why would you adjust for the wind ahead of time? Sight in and hold according to the day of wind conditions.
Spelling and grammar always count.
