Russian socket bayonet

Things a soldier would carry other than firearms, ammo, or uniforms. Meaning equipment such as ammo pouches, bayonets, holsters, oil cans, cleaning equipment, etc.

Russian socket bayonet

Post by Dutch Mosin » Wed Mar 07, 2012 2:51 pm

Last week I picked up a Mosin Nagant P-27 (yes I know, pictures ASAP in the Mosin Nagant forum  ).
The buy included a Russian socket bayonet in a German WW1 scabbard.
I thought it would be nice to post some pictures of the bayonet in here.

I have to find some more info on this bayonet.
I'll keep you all posted.

One good thing about seeing photos is that you discover that some of the things you assumed are wrong. I had imagined that all Nagant cruciform bayonets were alike. I got one that came with a 91/30. The way it is configured to lock onto the rifle is different from yours. Never would have paid any attention if you hadn't have posted the photo.

Robert,

You have no idea how many Russian Mosin Nagant (prototype) bayonets there are.
Next to these there are the countless German and Austrian "Ersatz" (replacement) bayonets for their captured Mosin Nagants.
Last but not least all the Finnish Mosin Nagant bayonets.
I'm sure I forgot a couple of countries that manufactured their own bayonets for the Mosin Nagant.
They could fill an entire forum.

Met vriendelijke groet,

Martin

No problem Joe.
I only knew them from pictures and was extremely happy that I could buy one and add it to my collection.
