The state of the Union now

Post by Niner » Sat Jan 12, 2013 9:58 pm

A guy at my other site posted something about the great gun hysteria in the US right now. I posted the following related to my experience today.

I set out today to go to a gun show. I go to a few each year just to see what the latest asking prices are for like guns to the ones in my C&R collection. Usually this, today's annual show...after hunting season is done, or about done... just has a pretty good turn out, not the largest of the year. Today I couldn't get into the parking lot or into the eight or ten acre cut grass field that is used for the overflow parking. The highway that nobody usually parks on was lined with parked cars and the parking lot of the bank several hundred yards from the auditorium was also filled. Needless to say.... the auditorium must have been packed beyond farting room only for those who made it in the $5 a head door. Probably a public fire hazard safety condition if all those people actually parked in the vicinity got into the building.

I bet there were a lot of "black guns" sold today in Mobile, Alabama. Obama and all the talking heads on TV did it and it will drive more sales for a while. It's all kind of crazy right now.

I was going to go to a gun show here in Tucson last weekend, but figured it
would be crowded, glad I didn't go. On the news that night they showed people
standing in line to get in, up to a couple of hours to wait. They were only letting
people in as others came out. Can only imagine the prices they were asking.
Another tv show showed the empty gun racks at local gun stores and pawn shops.
If America wasn't well armed before, it is now.
Hopefully this craziness doesn't go on too long....
:USA:

Peace is that brief, quiet moment in history.......... when everybody stands around reloading.

We have the British Shooting Show coming up next month..... http://www.shootingshow.co.uk/.... but I just can't stand crowds and won't be attending myself after my last experience of the show a few years back.

I've been to four gun shows in the past 4 weeks: Richmond VA, Raleigh NC, Greensboro NC, and finally yesterday Fayetteville NC. I had a similar experience at all four shows. Price gouging was rampant on all ARs, AKs, HKs and every other semiauto magazine fed rifle and carbine. I saw a Chinese SKS in Raleigh priced at $1250. HiPoint carbines (all calibers) were right at $1000. Yesterday I saw some Ruger 10/22 25 round magazines for $75! I'd purchased a few of those last fall for $24 each.

Also, ammo was sky high with 5.56 going for over $1.00 a round- $490 for a can of 420 rounds. The 7.62X51 and 7.62X39 ammo was hovering in the same price range. Even Wolf ammo was priced like that.

The only things that were about the same price as last year were bolt action rifles and most handguns.

Except for the Remington 700 I bought for my son yesterday I didn't spend $50 total for all four shows and that was for perifrial items other than firearms.

I'l continue to go to the shows but only as a spectator for the entertainment value until the Jackholes that are feeding this frenzy fall by the wayside. Oh, and I'm keeping a list of the vendors that are profiteering during this scare.
