70th Anniversary of Dolittle's Raid Reunion 4/17/2012

Took my dad, a WW2 & Korean War Vet up to Wright Patterson Air Force Base this past Apr 17th for the start of the 70th Dolittle Reunion and the arrival of 20-B25 bombers starting at 7:30 and lasting for about 45 minutes. Latter in the morning they let the public walk the flight line, talk about an awsome experience............. over 1/2 of the airworthy B25,s in North America all in one place, and the pilots and flight crews where just great to the crowd.

There are a few around here, myself included, that are aviation fans, especially
of WWII aircraft. A few years ago I went for a ride in a B-24, it was great.

I'm still pissed that the "politicaly correct" idiots forced the Confederate Air Force to
change their name to Commemorative Air Force.
But the CAF is coming to town on Monday and they have a few of their planes for rides.
This time their prices are a little out of my range.
Bombardier seat in the nose is $1595.
Radio operator or navigator seat is $1095.
Seats in the back are $595.

I can only imagine how much it costs per hour to keep this thing in the air.
But if I had the extra bucks, I'd be going for another ride......

The one I really want to go on is their P-51 Mustang, but it's $1495......

One of the pilots had a sign which displayed info on his plane including the cost per/hr to fly it, it was $2100.00/hour

A friend of my dad's owned a P51 back in the 80/90's and it was a sight to behold. Once we where out for a boat ride on dad's houseboat when his friend did a "strafing run" on us with it while we where crusing down the river.
Now I understand why the german soliders feared them so much

This is about the most elaborate nose art I have seen, later the plane was painted green
and the name changed to "Witchcraft", when I rode in it.
The dragon was only on one side, the other side was called All-American and mostly had
names on it. The B-24 belongs to the Collings Foundation.

Nice pics MT, I remember photographing Bettys Dream in the late 90's in Minnesota and I'm pretty sure it was still the Confederate AF at that time.
