To be amish.....

Post by Aughnanure » Mon Mar 04, 2013 7:24 pm

Overheard in an Istanbul square:

"I'm really tired of the desert, I'm gonna move to America and become Amish".

" What?' (Concerned discussion amid the witnesses to this blasphemy)

"Then go in peace, my son".

To try and save myself from the deep corner I must confess that I took it from another forum; I am NOT the author.

Amish = a missionary.

Ummm.... The Amish aren't missionary, you are probably thinking of the Mormons, they go on
missions, especially in their late teens.
The Amish are very low tech, no cars or electricity, not even zippers in their clothes.

Is that the joke, going from low-tech middle east to no-tech Amish???

n adjective relating to the Amish.

ORIGIN

Subtle for an aussie, for those others Mish is slang shortening for missionary as sanga is slang short for sandwich, arvo for afternoon etc.

So....he's an Australian living in Moslem Turkey and deciding to go to America and telling somebody who is a party to the Aussie lingo. The somebody is pretty much reponding, "roger that". This is the best I can make of it from what has been said so far.

"I'm really tired of the desert, I'm gonna move to America and become Amish".

This joke has to earn some kind of prize I think. :bigsmile:
