Casted bullet for my M44

Here is some info on the reloaded ammo I use for my 1946 Ishevsk M44.

The cases I use are S&B cases trimmed back to 53.3mm or 2.10”

The bullets are cal .311, 210 gn casted bullets.

I don’t cast them myself, but buy them at our gunclub.

The powder I use is VihtaVuori N110, it’s a so called reduced load.

Because the primerpockets of the S&B cases are a bit smaller in diameter compared to other primer pockets, 5.3mm(.208”) compared to 5.5mm(.217”) I bought some S&B LR primers.

They fit perfectly and performed great.

Some time ago I got a box of Hungarian steel cased ammo.

I haven’t fired it in my M44 yet.

Does anyone has some info on this ammo?

Martin, I bought 400 rounds of Hungarian yellow tip lead core heavy ball a couple of years ago. Yours looks to be the same stuff except mine came in an ammo can and wax paper packages.

It is good ammo as far as I am concerned, it shoots well in my Finn 91/30 but it will beat the crap out of your shoulder.

By the way

I heard on the radio the other day that experts on dikes and levees from the Netherlands are on their way to assist the Army Corps of Engineers down in New Orleans.

Nice lead pills

Is have loades the H&N CUHS bullets an Lapua S405 with N320 and N110 for reduced loads.

Had a load for my hingarian M44, wich printed nice 2" groups all day long at 100m.

I do not cast myown, not enough time.

Maybe one day I will start tht too, have collected some lead already.

Thanks for the info on the ammo Brass Rat.

I guess this ammo is corrosive

About assisting the Army Corps of Engineers.

I heard we were sending help too.

IMHO it can never be enough.

We had our share of floods here and took action afterwards.

I think they look great too.

They even produce a nice group at 100 meters.

I do not cast these myself, but buy them from someone at our gunclub.

The only bullets I cast myself are for my Vetterli.

You are right, it does take a lot of time, but I like the work and I don't need much of them.

You should try it yourself sometime.

I read you have reduced loads using N320.

Got some more info on that subject

Yes, I have used N310 an N320(mostly).

For anything from 6,5x55 up to 7,62x54R I used 10grn of N320(held back in the Case by two 2x2cm pieces of kitchen towel (ZEWA) rammed on the loadd) behind H&N CUHS bullets of normal weight for each caliber(140 for the swedes, 180 for the Enfields/mosins).

I also used 123grn bullets in teh Mosins with the same charge.

Only the 30-06 needes 12gern of N320.

Bullet seated 1mm shy of the lands seems to be very important, closer is not better.

Now I use N110, have an realy precise load for the No4Mk2 og my wife, no recoil.

I had never heard of reduced rifle loads using N310 / N320.

I DO remember ZEWA(WISCH UND WEG)

Must have heard that commercial a thousand times.

I asume you use the pieces of towel to keep the powder on top of the primer

I do the same with the BP loads of my Vetterli.

First 38 grains of Wano PP powder.

Then I use cous-cous as a filler and put the bullet on top of all that.

NO air between the bullet and the load.

The rest was found by experimenting.

The towle holds the powder near the primer and comes out the muzzle like grey snow flakes when fired.

That shouldn't be a problen dhtaxi.

Just let me know what you want to know and I'll look up the data.

I only reload for my Mosin Nagant M39 and M44 and do some reforming and reloading for my Dutch Mannlicher.

I use regular and reduced loads for my Mosin Nagants and only regular loads for my Dutch Mannlicher.

I think Chris(AWO425) has some more info on the LeeEnfields and other Finnish Mosin Nagant models.

I'm sure he will reply to this post.
