Same as what Robert said, never saw anyone use a grenade for heat, we always used C4
to heat up the C-Rats, never saw any heat tabs either.

Re: Grenade Fishing

Peace is that brief, quiet moment in history.......... when everybody stands around reloading.
Re: Grenade Fishing
We occasionally got heat tabs out in the field, but not consistently. C4 was easier, we always had a few bars of that for clearing an LZ, and we could always sacrifice a claymore. They were easy to replace. We heard you could set the C4 off if you hit it once it was burning. I never knew anyone who tried it.
Re: Grenade Fishing
C 4 could be dangerous in other ways. When I was finishing up my time in Vietnam I was on a company sized firebase with the 101st as part of an LNO team clearing grids for fire in the infantry battalion's AO. The artillery battery on the same hill called down to the infantry battalion TOC one day to report a chopper coming in to pick up a guy. Seems he got the notion that eating the stuff might make him high. I don't know how much he was able to swallow.....but it was enough to kill him.
