I found another 1916 short rifle. It will be here tomorrow.
I have only seen 1 picture of it but the price was right and I have a 3 day inspection period.
I hate to say it but these little 7x57 rifles and carbines are nearly as addicting as LE pattern rifles. OK not really THAT bad, but they are fun to shoot.
From the picture it looks like it has a tangent rear sight which I prefer to the Lange type rear sight on my 1926 vintage Oviedo M1916.

Well it arrived today, I believe that this is the best $123 that I have ever spent.
It is a very nice 1930 production M1916, still in the original 7x57 and best of all it has an excellent bore all the way to the muzzle.
The only minuses I can see is the polyurathane finish someone put on the wood and it is missing the front sight protector.
The metal is in great shape with no pitting that I can find.
I'll post some pics of both of them this weekend.

What is the barrel lenght? I want to find a 7X57mm mil surp for my collection, so are there many M1916 still in the original 7x57 configeration? $125 is in my range...perhapes!

The barrel is about 21 1/2". The .308's are easier to find right now because the wholesalers had a pretty big lot of them recently, I think Samco still has them for less than $150.
The 7x57's are a bit harder to find because you have to get them from an individual or auction. I don't want to open a can of worms here but I just don't feel comfortable with my nose 2 inches from a .308 round in an action that was designed with a lot lower preasure in mind.
My first one has no import mark on it and the new one has a Samco stamp under the barrel.
I did notice something else when I took it out of the wood, although you can see it in the stock I didn't notice that the right side of the ring is drilled and taped for some sort of sight. I tried to find set screws to plug the holes but they are somewhere between a #4 and #6 size bolt. I tried metric also with no luck it looks like they may be a #6x40 which I have been unable find so far.
