Took these pics at The Imperial War Museum Duxford. This is the VW Schimmwagen used by German forces during World War 2, based on the VW Kubelwagen, it was an amphibious 4 wheel drive version, and is a very interesting piece of kit.

Looks kinda like those dune buggy's we made out of Volkswagons when I was in school.

In the Imperial War Museum? They have a really good collection of military vehicles and AFV`s. There is also an outstanding collection of aircraft,

Thanks for the site. That place must be huge. I've been up to Oshkosh a few times. Love that place. Lakeland is a good airshow also. Stopped in Ohio last summer to the aie space museum. They have a good museum in Columbia,SC. The Confederate museum. Lots of WW2 weapons etc.,A Shwimmwagon is there also. One could spend a lot of time in those places.

I was at Oshkosh for the big EAA annual airshow in 1999, what a fantastic experience, warbirds galore! The only downside was seeing two Corsairs collide on the runway, one of them cartwheeled after the collision and just exploded in a ball of flame. fortunately there were no fatalities but one of the pilots was seriously injured.

You actually saw the planes in that incident, that must have been a shock. I've seen the video of that crash about 50 times and am shocked each time.

I was about 100yds away Vern, I caught part of the crash on film myself but had to switch the camera off, MAN, i felt sick to my stomach. To this day i cant figure out how Laird Doctor, the Corsair pilot, survived. We only found out he survived when watching the news that night in our hotel.

I had my daughter and niece with me at the time, and the kids were really upset too.

Just read the crash report again, It was Howard Pardues Bearcat that the Corsair clipped before it cartwheeled!

I wasn't there in '99, but I know the feeling. I was at Lakeland in 96 and Charlie Hillard put on one heck of a show in his Hawker Sea Fury. He landed and while taxiing he flipped over.A bubble canopy. (35-40 mph) From what I read later on, he had some jet air brakes and they locked up. More than 1,000 air shows over 25 yrs.(stunt) 40 yrs. as a pilot. No way is a good way but after all his years,what a way to go.
