Savage combination gun

Post by PeterN2 » Tue Sep 06, 2005 3:46 pm

I had a go at the range last night with a Savage combination gun. It was a .22LR barrel over a .410 shotgun barrel. I put a few shots down range with the .22 barrel. It was quite accurate. Two bulls, two nines and a (my fault) flyer in the six ring at 20 yards on the tin hat target. I could see this gun being very useful on the farm. It is the first time I have seen one of these. The chap who owns it also has a Drilling. A pair if 16 bore barrels over a 7.92x57 barrel. He didn't have that with him so I couldn't have a look at that.

Regards

Peter.

Those were pretty popular when I was a boy. Seems like every barn in North Georgia had one leaning in the corner.

They were quite practical, especially for a 13 year old looking for targets of opportunity, squirrel, rabbits, anything with wings, etc.

The Savage is a good gun.The last one I owned was .223 over 20 gauge. The current one I am really enjoying is the M6 Scout in .22Hornet over .410 shotgun.

Do Savage still make these combination guns?

Post by PeterN2 » Tue Oct 04, 2005 4:39 pm

just wondering if they are still made. What was the full list of rifle/shotgun caliber combinations available?

I had one for a few years. It was originally .22rf over .410ga. but the owner had had it sleeved to .30/30. He was a farmer and carried it, usually on his tractor, for pigs, foxes and rabbits. But he got more interested in pistols.
