Holga 120N

I started this forum for any collecting hobby and it turned into my camera collecting and using forum. I use it mostly to keep a record of my photo adventures. Nobody but me seems to have photo adventures that visit here....but however. I have so many cameras now that I forget which is which and which ones work and which ones don't. If you have cameras and adventures you would be welcome to post here.

Holga 120N

The Holga 120N is a toy camera for photography nerds. It's as cheap a camera as can be made and actually capture light on film. The shutter speeds are "Sun" and "not as Sunny" and an optional Bulb mode where you can hold the shutter open for as long as you like. The focus range is about an inch and a half of turning the plastic lens which should, in theory, produce a range of three feet to whatever in four unmeasured and unclicking increments. On the up grade from this one it has actual icons to make one person, two person, several people and way off in the distance. It shoots 120 film and has two triangular bits that fit inside the camera supposedly for 120 film with 12 exposures at 6x6 and another that looks about the same that is for 16 frames at 6x4.5. I just put it on 12 frame. I still don't see how the 6x4.5 is going to work on 120 film. There are tin clips on either side of the camera back to keep the back on. No light seals ...but that's part of the adventure.

One of the supposed artistic things about this camera is that the lens is likely to have all sorts of flaws in it. The camera leaks light now and again from various places , and the spring and plastic shutter is at best questionable for the tasks involved.

Well... after one try with it I discovered I should have used the slightly slower shutter speed...at least. "Sunny" produced negatives that were so lightly recorded that they printed really dark. However.... I 'll give it another try sometime in the future.

That reminds me of the cameras you see by the binfull at Goodwill/Salvation Army type
second-hand stores. People donate them because there is no film and now they have a
digital camera........
:USA:

Peace is that brief, quiet moment in history.......... when everybody stands around reloading.
