Simonov SKS-45

[Dutch Mosin]

Hello all,

A couple of months ago I found this rifle at a gunshop in Germany.
It's a 1955 Tula SKS-45 in caliber 7.62x39.
Always wanted to own one but just couldn't find one for the right price.
The wood needs some work, but the action, barrel and gas system look great.
All I have to do now is find the time to pick it up.
As usual this will take a couple of months but it will be worth the trouble.

Great fun to shoot, Martin. I have a Tula 1954. The Russian made SKS rifles are the most desireable in the US...or at least they bring the most money on the collector market.

With your Dutch license, with all the shooting and collection only twists and turns, will you be able to fire it?

Hello Robert,

Yes, I put this rifle on my shooters license so I will be able to take it to the range.
You don't see these rifles much on Dutch ranges, in fact.......you don't see these rifles much over here....period.
Just a few collectors have one and I have never seen one owned by a sport shooter.
I will not reload the ammo but buy myself a case of surplus ammo.
It is relatively cheap over here.

7.62x39 is still relatively cheap surplus over on this side of the pond as well. Not much demand for reloading here either.

One good thing about the SKS as a surplus rifle.... it doesn't have much of a kick. Not nearly as much as one of your Mosin Nagants.

My SKS is the Chinese version, they are fun shooters. What I have noticed lately is very little of the
actual surplus ammo, it mostly is the new Russian made Tula, Wolf, Red Army Standard, and Golden Tiger.
The prices at the place I buy starts at 22¢ a round for 1000 steel case ($22 shipping), on up to what ever
you want to pay for brass case. So for plinking 7.62x39 steel case at 24.6¢ delivered, isn't too bad, IMO.
Of course, having ammo delivered is one of the things the liberals are already attacking........

Nice rifle Martin, I have owned about a dozen of these over the years and they where all great shooters ( except for the Albanian ones).

I do want to start reloading some time in the future Robert.
Not because it is necessary, but just because I like doing it.

I had a couple of opportunities to buy a Chinese version of the SKS but these are not my field of interest.
I waited for a Soviet one and........it worked.
About the ammo.
I can buy a case of Tula surplus for 275 Euros (that's about $300.00)
There are 1400 rounds in the case (on clips) so that's about $0.22 per round.

I have to pick up the ammo but hey.........I live in the Netherlands.
It's just a 45 minutes drive from where I live.
In fact.....EVERYTHING in the Netherlands is about 45 minutes from where I live.

What..........you owned a dozen of them....WOW.
I'd love to add an Albanian SKS to my collection.
I don't know how you do it Miller but you keep finding gems.

We can buy them here but only as a single shot version which sort of defeats the object somewhat!

We can't have those in the UK, deemed far too dangerous for a private individual to own. However, it is legal to own a fully functional artillery gun such as a 25 pounder on a firearms certificate.
