Jungle carbine question

Post by blackisler » Wed Jun 15, 2005 1:07 pm

I have an option on a couple of no 5s , the question I am asking is about the nose caps, the first one is a Fazakerly which has a noswe cap the other one which I have not Identified yet has a slightly shorter forestock and no nose cap . The dealer said that some no5s had nose caps and others did not is he right or is he telling stories?

The earlier No5s trials had a rounded metal nose cap when production started they went to just a rounded wood fore end rather like a sporter and latterly they went onto a squared metal fore end to combat splitting and wear to the wood.

You can also find later rifles with the plain wood fore end although obviously not so robust I think the wooded forends more elegant.

I'm not sure about the different fore end lengths mind, make sure that its not metal capped fore end thats just been reshaped.
