Just handled a L-E No.9 .22 trainer...

at the range yesterday. I presume this one was to go along with the no.4 .303 rifle - well, at least they are lookalikes.

A friend of mine had just purchased it for .22 practice, and was shooting it at the range yesterday.

After zeroing it and just before the end of shooting, I finally managed to wring the thing from his hands in order to get a few shots in myself - nice one, although it does require quite a bit of cocking effort when closing the bolt - much more than his SMLE .22 trainer. For shooting, I do prefer this one though - nice trigger, not gritty at all (his other is horrible) and nicely accurate.

The post-shooting inspection revealed a mirror-like bore (doubt if it has been shot a lot before) and what is presumably a barrel liner - the muzzle is marked "parkerifled - AJP". I presume the original barrel was drilled out, and the liner inserted. No problem with the way it shoots though...

I has the chance to handle a No9Mk1 when I visited a friend some month back. Th rifle is like new, same stamping un the muzzle. But acuracy ist not as good as my No7 or No8.

Funny thing is, this No9 actualy is built on a MK2 action!!!

Trigger was not that good, but this is history, now it is smoth as silk and breaks as glas ;)
