For a while the Russians thought these were a good idea and built several different prototypes, but
none ever went into full production. Kind of cool looking though.

Wonder how they steered it? A flap on the vertical tail piece would seem a bit unresponsive. Maybe that bank of engines close together toward the front end could be adjusted with more or less thrust to either side.Now that thing in the bottom photo I have no guess.

I agree, probably no sharp turns..... . The bottom one has jet engines on both sides of the nose, you can see the
outlets on the sides and the air inlets on top of nose behind the bulb. They seem to be pointed down to lift the nose.
It seems they mostly just skid sideways using the flaps on the rudder and side to side engine thrust. I guess similar to an
air cushion vehicle like in Nam.....
