New Range??
I have just pulled this off the NRA web site, anybody know it?
Christmas Present for Scotland
The National Rifle Association has commenced formal negotiations with the Lowland Reserve Forces' and Cadets' Association in Scotland to reopen Dechmont ranges on the outskirts of Glasgow for cadet and civilian shooting.
If appropriate safety certification can be achieved the hope is that target shooting can resume after a 12 year absence. The site will be surveyed to see if it can be developed to accommodate a multi-discipline facility catering for fullbore, small-bore, air and clay shooting requirements in co-operation with the other national bodies.
A survey of potential interested partners will take place in the next few weeks to assess levels of interest and commitment to the project.
The NRA hopes that if this initiative goes ahead it will help Scotland's preparations for 2012 and assist any Scottish bid for the Commonwealth Games.

Secretary General

Hi Mick,
How are you doing mate?
Good to see you back, hope evreything is allright with you and yours, the best of the season to you.
Never been on the Dechmont ranges I'm assuming that they are at Dechmont Hill between Rutherglen and East Kilbride and there are ranges there.
There is another place called Dechmont outside Livingstone used to run a theatre company there. Knew a lass from there once, hell she could drink and fight. Don't seem to remember there being any ranges there though so it must be Dechmont Hill.
Good to see that Alger is starting to walk the talk, I hope it comes off.
It will be interesting to see how the Scottish Executive respond to this, they are more new labour than Bastard Blair and are totally anti gun. The whole Dunblane thing is still very emotive in Scotland. Its the Scottish Executive and that arse hole McConnel that are pushing the latest round of airgun legislation.
Anyway good to see that the NRA is giving its priority where its due to those wonderful people the Scots
Seriously though if he pulls this first one off in Scotland it will be a strong political statement.
What needs to happen now is that all the UK shooters and organisations come behind him and give and the NRA, or whatever its going to be renamed as, a true national mandate.
So join the NRA all you UK shooters, forget the past and give this new policy and vision a chance.

I already did join the NRA
I joined the NRA four or five years ago. I thought I would support it even though it was a Target Rifle/Bisley orientated organisation then. I hope there are developments in securing ranges and spreading out to the rest of the UK other than Bisley, and that it is not just talk to get people to join.
Regards
Peter.

The trouble is the "I don't understand it, therefore is shouldn't be allowed" mob seem to be in power all over.
I seem to recall reading that for the 2012 Olympics, rather than improve existing ranges or building new permenant ranges, the Committee are going to build a range for the games which will be demolished immediately after the Para-Olympics - Bloody typical, it's our money, but we have no say (I notice they didn't demolish that bloody dome).
Cynically.
