Try A J Parkers in Birmingham for all things Enfield. I had my Savage No. 4 barrel replaced by them and of course since they're not too far from the proof house they had it re-proofed as well. The No.4 shoots like a dream with its new yes new Maltby barrel. Also bought a 1943 manufactured No.1 Mk3* from them. Excellent bargain. Plus they can supply virtually any part, accessory or tool.

Good Luck

Sorted! Phoned up Parkers and it's booked in for next Thursday for a new barrel! I'll take it up and probably spend way to much on impulse buys, hey ho!

Thanks for the advice chaps, hope I get it back in time for the Spring into action shoot I'll have to borrow wifeys rifle for the Service Match on the 3rd :-)

Service Rifle Competition Bisley 4th 5th March 2006

Post by Strangely_Brown » Sun Feb 19, 2006 5:24 pm

Hi GS,

I hope to see you at Bisley for the above event and any other Milsurpers who can make it down south that weekend.

If any of you Brits you are thinking about it; here is a link to download the entry form:

http://www.nra.org.uk/common/asp/Calend ... NRA&id=973

See you on the firing point...............................or more likely in the butts!

Damn, how did I miss that, too short notice for me now.

I usually log onto the NRA site at least once week.

However it will have been nearer three weeks recently with me being away, even so I'm surprised that I missed it.

Being over 50 now means I'm eligible for the more genteel Queen Mary with no sweaty undignified running.

I would have thought they might have sent out entry forms for those of us with an interest in Historic, the Phoenix forms landed today.

Still I hope I'd get a crack at it during the Imperial.

Adam if this one is a success than it will be an annual event; I have booked my accomodation at the Army Target Club House (they let me back in after I denied that I knew you or Jim!).

At least it gives people the chance to shoot the event at the weekend rather than during a busy mid week period in July when time off for a lot of us is difficult.

Well I'm sorry I can't make it, however I wish the event every success and if it can settle down to a regular time of the year then I'll definitely make the effort next year.

I wish you every success Mick, Jim and I intend to re-aquaint ourselves with the Army Target Club House during the Phoenix as we romp around Bisley looking for our old mate Mick Kelly. ;)

Sent off the forms today for the Service Rifle.

If you see us you can miss us, we'll probably be the welshman and the american lady in more or less matching realtree camo jackets :-) and either cowboy or furry hats depending on the weather :-)

Come and say hello!!!!

P.S.

Why do I get so jealous when I see this?

Well call me "Mr Picky", but I don't see a 1907 Patt bayonet with Quillion anywhere on that table. ;)

GS, I shall look out for you and Mrs Goblinslayer on Century range.

So how did our forum friends do at the Service Rifle competition then?

I'm sure its just modesty that holds you back from the range report. ;)

Winter Service Rifle

Post by Strangely_Brown » Fri Mar 10, 2006 6:27 pm

Yes Adam apologies for the late responce, I drove up on Friday night to spend the coldest night I think I have ever experianced in the Army club house which did not give me much confidence for the weather conditions for the Saturday, but suffice to say I was just being a soft southerner.

I did get to meet Chris (Goblinslayer) at the 100 yard point just before the off on Saturday morning with his lovely wife Laura, they were both wearing hats!!! so identification was very easy. ;)

The usual format applied to this meeting with the competitors splitting into two groups, one for the butts and the other to the firing point.

About thirty of the competitors were using scoped AR15 derivities with the rest divided into two groups of SMLE and No4 users numbering about ten each. A friend of mine was using an Armalon conversion of a No 4 (AL42) in .223 but was not competitive against the other iron sighted users who were (legally) resting their thirty round magazines on the ground!

I wont go into graphic detail regarding each event but it was great fun to shoot, the good news being that we finished about four O'clock Saturday afternoon allowing me the chance to buy a hot water bottle in Lightwater.

Whilst we still do not have the scores for the Sunday matches I believe Chris (Goblinslayer) came first (SMLE) for the Saturday aggregate with James (MkVII) winning the overall SMLE class and taking the gold medal.

I came second overall in the No4 class and took home the silver medal, which was just as well I had something to show for a weekend away as my wife had to celebrate her birthday by herself!

I am told that the NRA viewed the meeting as a success and I would hope that we shoot it again next year.

Sorry for the lack of photos but as I sell cameras for a living the last thing I want to do is take a camera with me to Bisley.
