The Great MAH Spring KISS Competition.

Post by dromia » Tue Feb 21, 2006 11:44 am

OK now that spring is round the corner its time to start thinking about getting some range time in. What better way than to enter in the Great MAH Spring KISS Competition.

As we all know KISS means "Keep It Simple Stupid" and that what we're going to do for this competition.

There will only be one class and that is for military centre fire or muzzle loading rifles with issue iron sights, so scoped snipers, target versions etc are out.

Ammunition: anything that will safely rattle down the barrel.

Distance: 100yrds.

Target: US NRA 100 yrd small bore rifle target. Non US shooters email me and I'll send you out one to photocopy.

Position: prone, bench or trench, unsuported, no slings.

Twelve shots per target, highest ten to count.

Scoring will be outward, if it breaks the line it counts.

Any number of entries per person but it must be with a different rifle, only one entry per firearm.

Highest score wins a prize.

Most number of entries wins a prize.

Scores along with photos of the targets and rifle if possible should be posted on the appropriate post that will appear in due course.

The competition organiser's (thats me) decisions in all matters pertaining to this shoot, including the nature of the prizes, are absolute and not challengeable.

The competition runs 'till midnight on Sunday the 28th of May 2006.

Any questions about this bundle of fun and shooting pleasure should be directed to me.

Its simple, you've got plenty of time to shoot loads of entries, so there is no excuse. Go to it with a will I expect to be kept very busy recording all the scores.

Register your intent to participate below so that we can see the strength of the field.

I'll add a milsurpafterhours pin and patch to the prize list. Make it an at random drawing for all participants, me and Adam excluded, of course.

Me too. And a question - is closing date of the competition the day they have to reach you or is it enough that they are in the post by then ?
The power of accurate observation is frequently called cynicism by those who don't have it.

Graeme,

You don't need to physically send the target for scoring, you do that yourself and then post the score here, we are all grown up people and assume that personal integrity is important, anyone who cheats is only cheating themselves.

If possible though it is always of interest if you post a photograph of the shot card and one of the rifle used.

So all that needs to happen is that the score is posted here by the deadline.

Dave,

If you can bear to shoot the MAS, then I am honour bound to record your score.

I am sure that the MAS will shoot very well, it is a classic B/A design and has its place in any comprehensive collection, preferably in a sealed box in a locked, darkened room.

Its just that its so fecking ugly and shooting it with brown paper bag over your head isn't conducive to best accuracy.

Hey Graeme,

we can shoot some cards at Deerpark on Saturday, as the lads will be taking a selection for you to shoot, statisticaly some of them are bound to have reasonably straight barrels with some vestiges of riflling and most of the rust removed with deft use of the angle grinder. Watch out for any recent welds around the action or along the barrels though.

The club has a 12lb mash hammer for fine sight adjustment and a dainty little 6 pounder for telescopics.

A word of advice on range etiquette and personal safety, always get Joe to shoot his rifles first just in case and don't be shy about refusing peoples hand loads especially from the lads with the missing digits and eye patches.

You see now why we like to shoot from trenches, better cover for when someone has their special load for that renovated battlefield pick up they found on the Somme last year.
