Having scratched the immediate C&R itch with a few rifles- M39, M44, Yugo Mauser- I went looking for the Manurhin PP- one of the C&R "must-haves."
Sadly, they are drying up. A year or so ago AIM had, along with a few others. They've inched their way up in price as well. I located a NIB, 2 clips for $309. Called them- gone. Hadn't updated their site.
Finally got my Century account to work- seriously thought about a CZ-50. The Maks, too, are attractive but at $350 for an East German hurts, when Bulgarians were 150-175 like, yesterday (it seems). I'm sure they are great but the supply is there and the price is already high.
The CZ-50 was new to me- Read some things good and bad. Butr wait- they had Manurhin PP's as well. Not NIB, but the "light holster wear" that is what's availble these days. Thought about it for 5 minutes.
Had ALWAYS wanted a PP- not a PPK, a PP. Message boards strongly indicate the M-PP's quality is equal to the German-made. Interarms, some people aren't happy with. Ordered the PP.
It came overnight. One word- WOW. Fits my hand like it was made for me. Wonderful old-country bluing. About $100 more than the CZ, but the CZ-50's will be around- and are they not in imitation of this pistol?
Last year could have gotten a NIB- C&R's are all about your timing. He who hesitates is lost, or has lost out. I remember cheap & plentiful M-1 carbines when I was a kid- didn't want one for the pipsqueak round. Wish I had one today...
Anyways. Light holster wear on the PP- mmph. A little. Little chip out of the brown+black Manurhin grips- no biggie. Getting oak leves or zebrawood anyways. Came with 2 mags serialized to the pistol (electro gun on finger ext.) Good.
Fit and finish- superior to many and it shows. Way glad I went for it.
Stripped it and can't find any dirt. Puzzling. Indications are this wasn't even fired enough to break it in. The ones avialble now are police pistols, but used for a very short time, apparently. The spare mag looks brand new (both are M-marked.) Serial is high- 951xx.
Century has 'em. Not NIB, but close.
Heard they like Federal .32 ammo. Do they like Mag tech? Gold Dot? What else can anyone tell me about theirs? and these that are on the market now? Should I automatically replace the spring with a Wolff ? (I usually do).
Shooting it tomorrow...
