Good idea dave.

Those poofy french horrors are likely to come apart in anything other than a gentle Provence breeze.

You need proper battle rifle robust, trustworthy, accuarate and elegant!

You'ver said it mate - The Enfield.

Schmidt-Rubin 1889 Rifle

Post by SgtJethro » Sat Mar 11, 2006 9:25 pm

After a nice Reuben sandwich for lunch, I felt like a little something Swiss.

Rifle: Swiss Schmidt-Rubin 1889 Rifle, 7.5 x 54.5mm GP90/23

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0603/ ... _Rubin.jpg[/pic]

Ammo: 180 gr Hornady .30 RN over 37.0 gr IMR-3031

Resized Frontier 7.5x54mm Swiss brass, Winchester LR primers

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0603/ ... _85-1x.jpg[/pic]

Score: 85.1

All but one in the paint. Not bad for such an old girl.

That's interesting.

That's the first time I remember seeing what an SVT40 would do.

More Swiss Cheese - Schmidt-Rubin 1896/11 Rifle

Post by SgtJethro » Sun Mar 12, 2006 8:50 am

Okay, let's finish up the Swiss stuff.

Rifle: Schmidt-Rubin 1896/11 Rifle, 7.5x55mm

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0603/ ... _Rubin.jpg[/pic]

Ammo: Swiss surplus GP11

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0603/ ... -11_87.jpg[/pic]

Score: 87.0

I like this rifle more than the K-31, but not nearly as much as I like the 1889 rifle.

Swiss Wrap-up: K-31

Post by SgtJethro » Sun Mar 12, 2006 9:06 am

My last Swissie.

Rifle: Schmidt-Rubin K-31

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0603/ ... n_K-31.jpg[/pic]

Ammo: Swiss surplus GP11

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0603/ ... -31_85.jpg[/pic]

Score: 85.1

I was somewhat confused by the performance of the GP11 ammo and this rifle. I had to set the sights at 300 meters to get these results using a six o'clock hold on the target.

All of my Swiss shooting was done sitting at the bench as the ground was quite muddy from recent snowmelt.

You have some very nice rifles there sarge, i am particulary enamoured with the 1889 Swiss cheese.

I am surprised the K31 / GP11 combination didnt score higher though.

Nice shooting
