I received my gun club membership card Wednesday so today it was off to the range for me and Bob.
It's an hour and 20 minute drive from here and we arrived about 1030 this morning.
First thing we did was watch a bit of the 3x600 yard match that was in progress on the high power range. Next we made our way to the steel plate range where Bob tried his hand at knocking down the plates with his Ruger Model I Standard .22. He had a ball knocking down the plates and dinging the bell.
I have been informed that need a bigger handgun now because the .22 doesn't always knock the plates over. There was a guy shooting with us with a 1911 .45 and Bob has decided that thats what we need.
After shooting and talking and helping pick up .45 brass we walked over to the 25 yard plinking range to sight in the Suhl target .22 that we will be using next weekend on our shooting/camping trip. It shouldn't have taken long to sight in but the rear sight is marked in German and it took a while to figure out which way to turn the knobs. That being done we went back to the plate range and shot up the last of the .22 ammo.
We wanted to shoot at 200 yards but both 200 yard ranges had matches today so we drove over to the 100 yard multi purpose range and joined in with a half a dozen or so shooters that were already there.
I brought along some SR1 targets and some SR centers so Bob would get a look at what the sight picture will be like at 600 yards in 2 weeks. After about 10 rounds of single loading the 75gn Hornady HPBT rounds that he will be using at 600 yards to get the sights dialed in he was keeping it in the black.
We had a really great time, it's so different being a club member than paying for range time by the hour. We had time to just wander around and watch matches and talk to other shooters and just have a relaxing day at the range.
We packed up and headed home around 1500.
I think that today I got just a hint of how much ammunition we are going to be going thru.
What a day!!! (Warning,,,inane rambling)

Is it like joining a country club? Did someone have to put you up for membership and somebody else have to enquire about your progenitors before allowing you to join? Did you have to take out a second mortage to raise funds for the initiation fee?
Just kidding.
I wish I belonged to a club. The only one around here that I know of I wouldn't belong to because of the one nut case I know that is a regular member. As Groucho Marks used to say, " I wouldn't belong to a club that would accept me as a member". But that could change.
Just kidding.
