The UK Handgun Ban

Tens years on from the tragedy at Dunblane that was used by spineless politicians to garner sympathy votes by making legal handgun owners criminals aftre the fact, its good to see a mainstream paper reflecting on the ineffectivness of the ban.

Thunderer obviously didn't stand up for us then but he is now publicly regreting that and seeing the obvious.

This a damn sight more than Bastard Blair and his arse wipe cronies will have the integrity to do.

My thoughts and sympathy go to the bereaved at Dunblane as even 10 years down the line the pain of that awful day must be still acute.

At the time of the handgun ban Bastard Blaire and his arsewipes demonised every pistol shooter calling them '' murderous pedophile bastards who only want to practise there killing skills'' ,they even boasted that once handguns were banned there will be no guns on the streets and people will be safe to walk down the roads with no fear.

It was interesting to read in The Times yesterday that 10 years to the day that the Dunblane murders took place two hit men walked into a Manchester pub and shot a couple of rival gang members with handguns.

The would be assassins then ran off into a park (where children were playing) pursued by the shot men's drinking cronies who shot them both dead.

Obviously the men who were drinking in the pub at the time must also have been carrying concealed handguns to have been able to respond so quickly.

Needless to say, by the time the police arrived all the guns involved had 'disappeared'.

The police have been criticised this week for not yet having introduced the computer database of all legally held firearms in the UK that was promised post-Dunblane.

Am I alone in failing to see what impact the database might have had on this week's 'Gunchester' shootings?

Over on this side of the pond, several years ago the US NRA was hounded by the media & the firearms control crowd for the a slogan that ran: "When guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns."

It was so very trite & insensitive. "Just another NRA scare tactic claimed one group.

As Mr.' Clark wrote:

"The handgun ban ... hasn’t prevented the criminal classes from arming themselves like never before."

The 10 year anniversary of Dunblane has brought out the typical media and political bias against shooters. For 4 weeks prior to the anniversary Channel 4 was promoting its TV programme and on the Sunday before it was aired there was an ITV politics show that dedicated air time to this tragedy. The Sunday programme showed one of the victims parents who's been campaigning for the NAtional gun register and a police chief of sorts. There was never ANY representation of the shooting sports, and it was typically anti-gun all the way. There was little or no real admission to the fact that a bad man had caused this haneous crime - only very naughty guns!!

My local newspaper The Lymington Times contains an editorial today on the Dunblane massacre that reads as follows:

"It is quite understandable that relatives of children killed by a madman in their school at Dunblane should be upset when, early in Blair's accession, they were promised a national gun register which has not yet materialised.

If my memory serves me right, the gunman who committed the massacre was a licensed gun owner who possessed a number of weapons including handguns. An initial report by a policeman expressed doubts about the man's fitness to keep guns, but he had been overruled by a senior officer.

The tragedy produced an absurd knee jerk reaction by the government who made the possessing of any handgun illegal, and even extended this to guns in gun clubs kept under lock and key. Our Olympic shooting team was prevented from practising and had to go abroad to do so.

Since the ban, gun murders have increased dramatically, not by those who had to surrender their licences (sic), but by criminals and youngsters in gangs where a gun was looked upon as a prestige symbol, easily purchased for a hundred or so pounds and smuggled in from abroad.

Only this week two hit men entered a crowded pub intent on dispatching two men, whom they shot but did not kill. They were set upon by others in the pub, and were chased and shot dead before they could reach their parked car. One might say this was a satisfactory outcome. The two intended victims were wounded but are recovering.

No number of gun registers only filled with names of law abiding citizens is going to prevent killings.

It has been stated, probably with some truth, that holding up a petrol station in the States has become unpopular for it is more than likely that the bandit will be shot dead by one or more owners waiting to fill up."

I thought it worth quoting the article in its entirety. Perhaps the message will spread?

Brian, That message and the one expressed by Mr. Clark will spread largely in hushed tones between people that realize that one is responsible for their own actions and that the redirection of blame to inanimate objects futile.
