OT Parker Hale 1200 TX

Just picked up of these in 7.62 x 51 single shot.

All marked parts are marked Parker Hale

Serial number is S-05902

Proof is BNP Crown over SP on the barrel

The receiver is marked Crown over BNP with T(?) 20 SP

Comes with a Parker Hale 5E rear with PH60 apperture.

Very heavy free floating barrel PH front globe sight.

Recoil pad is PH England.

Can anyone give some info on this rifle use and production period.

Dont think this is one of the Spanish action. Elmer.

From what little knowledge I have, the 1200 was produced from the early 80's, and has several incarnations. I believe the Canadians used it as the basis for their sniper rifle, but I don't know if that is still true. It also seems to have been used as the basis for the L82A1, the Cadet target rifle currently on issue to British cadets. sadly, whoever designed that incarnation should have been shot, because it is a horrible horrible rifle. However, you have the good sights, and they're supposed to be quite capable rifles. whats the barrel length? the cadet version cheated, opting for a shorter barrel and higher rate of twist, and depending which angry instructor you're talking to, all to save money.

I used to own a 1200TX which I bought 2nd hand in 1984 or '85.

I have never really got on with it, though. It is the only target rifle I have ever had. I don't seem to do any better with the 1200TX than I do with a No4 with issue sights though in theory it should be no contest. I will probably end up selling it.

To see if it's a Spanish Santa Barbra action look carefully on the side of the tang of the action with it out of the stock. Despite polishing for bluing you can normally see if it had Spain stamped there. I have three model 1200 sporting rifles and they all have Spanish actions but that does not mean that 1200's have spanish actions. Unfortunately it seems that when Bremner Arms took over at Parker-Hales they burnt the production records .
