You've a .323 , AJ? Mine's S marked, but still .318. I've some ,318 Jacketed bullets on the way from Buffalo Arms, we'll see how she stacks up against yours.

You're on, Mike. Hermann the German and I are up for the challenge as long as you shoot in similar conditions: 29 degrees, 15 mph crosswind, mixed rain and snow, and, above all, both eyes closed.

Mine is also "S" marked, but it is .323. Lately, I have only been shooting cast bullets through it. In the past, I have gotten better results from it than I did the other day. I think I need to get new glasses as I was having a hell of a time with the sights.

Okay, I know. Excuses, excuses, excuses.

Mountain living (gotta love it)

It's actually been up in the fourties the past couple of days. No crosswind, but the 40mph tail wind's a bear. Snowed every night last week.

Komission 88

Post by mozark » Thu Mar 30, 2006 5:32 pm

Here is my first go. My Gew. 88 has a .318 bore. I've had it a year and hadn't been able to shoot it yet, but as luck would have it I received a box of .318/170gr jacketed bullets from Buffalo Arms yesterday. I had some time to fool around today, and quickly arrived at a load of 52 grains of H-4831. This is around the starting load for this powder in the 8x57, but is close to a full case and produces a stately 2200fps in this rifle. Perfect.

AJ, sorry, I couldn't help the weather, it was 70 and sunny today. Unfair advantage.

Not bad for this old girl. Although quite scarred it's an interesting rifle. A WWI bring-back, so no marks other than Imperial German.

Michael, you low life. I bet you also shot in a gentle spring breeze also. I just knew I could not trust a ridgerunner to play fairly.

Finn M39 SkY

Post by mozark » Tue Apr 11, 2006 7:43 pm

Got to shoot some over the weekend. Pretty chilly and blustery, but sunny.

This is my 1943 Sako SkY M39. I really like this rifle, never refurbished, it is quite worn, with little metal finish above the wood, but is pleasure to shoot. It has great heft, a lovely trigger and cartridges just slip in, not a sharp edge to be found. Unfortunately, as far as shooting went, I only had 20 cases, and after shooting my target found that I had over adjusted the front sight while zeroing. Oh, well, a nice group anyway, albeit off center.

Swiss K-31

Post by mozark » Tue Apr 11, 2006 7:52 pm

Beautiful weather here this afternoon. After a long day in the shop I shot some before dark.

Swiss K-31, 1938. Refurbished at some point, newer blue over worn metal with a 50's beech stock. I think these rifles shoot themselves.

I don't really love this rifle, in spite of how well it shoots. Kinda clunky, Short LOP, and the finger grooves offset for a righty are annoying.

MM

BTW, AJ, GP-11 with sights at 300 and a 6 o'clock hold. Go figure.

One more this afternoon.

Now this is a rifle that I love. 1926 Lithgow No.1 MkIII, '54 Lithgow FTR, and sold off to India at some point. Pristine all-Lithgow metal, but when I got it she had a badly twisted forend, and the most horrendously chewed up butt imaginable. I restocked with an Enfield walnut forend, and 54 Slazanger Long Butt. Also replaced the indian nosecap with an Aussie.

Finn 91, Mosin.

Nice shooting, AJ. That's truly one ugly rifle.

You have me by a couple of X's, but my rifle's much prettier (longer, too, you may notice.) Finn 91, score 90/0X.
