Not realy a military trainer: Weihrauch HW52

Hi folks!

This one is not a military trainer, but also a nice gun:

The original rig included also a barrel mounted rearsight, which I have now to hunt down.

But I think, this one will be a lot of fun at 50 an 100 meters as is

Nice rifle Chris, i have never seen one before. What vintage is it? Is it a falling block type of action? What sort of sight is required for the barrel mounting?

Hello Joe,

informations about those rifles are hard to get even here in Germany.

As far as I know, they started in the early 1950s and there were several models of this kind of action.

One with octagonal barrel and open action, one with Tirol type Stock and double set triggers, the Olympia Meisterbüchse(as in the pic) and also a Stutzen for hunting.

The action is a dropping block, extremely well made.

I do only have two not so good pictures of the barrel mounted sight. It is a U notch adjustable or windage and heigh.

There were some diferent types of those sights in use.

Some of them were mouted also on Mauser or Walther .22lr rifles of that time.

It uses a 11mm dovetail on top of the barrel.

The rifles were somewaht expensive back then, more than one mothly income, that's why they are not common.

Would there be a blade foresight to go with the u notch rearsight? Has somebody fitted non standard target sights or did it come originally with both types of sights?

I can imagine the rifles being expensive new as yours does look to be of very high quality.

The rifle back than came as a package with notch sight, peep sight and diferent insert for the tunnel front sight.

I have two post inserts, they are hidden in the bis screw in the fore end.

The peep sight normal does not have this modern addition(combo of color filters, anti glare filter and adjustable diameter peep, this thing alone coste over 100 Euro here!!!!!!!!!)

Maybe I will find an old set of fixed inserts, as nobody here uses this old stuff anymore.

That is one lovely rifle Christoph.

I've seen one example of those before and fell in love with it then, it was not for sale or I would have had it.

No, I will shoot with her on sunday and report here.

For me it was nearly the same.

When I visited a good friend, he handed me his HW52 and I could not belive, what I was seeing!!!!!!!!!

And this freind will buy another HW52 next month for his wife, this time the modell with the octagonal barrel, looks somewaht like a baby sharps

I had the great luck to find my HW52 in a auction, an no other knowledgeable bidder had spotted it

It will replace the BSA Martini 12/15, I sold some month back.
