Finn 91

Post by mozark » Sat Mar 11, 2006 7:57 am

Here are some photos of a Finn 91 that I recently aquired. 1940 VKT, matching bolt and numbered on the receiver above a struck through Russian number.

What's unususal about this rifle is that it's close to unissued in appearance. This seems odd to me for a Finn 91. It's in a war-time stock that's in almost factory new condition, and the blue is near perfect. There are no marks on the feed plate, the bolt is snug in the action, and the bore has very sharp lands.

Was it refurbished? Issued and virtually unused/ or assembled from parts after the war? A puzzle.

Nice rifle!

It is not that uncommon to find late VKT or Tikkas in such new made stocks in unisued condition.

Almost bougth a M91 B barrel(sadly deactivated) only for the stock and saw several others with such stocks.

Maybe they were assembled, wehn tha war was over and stored.

Thanks Chris,

Interesting, maybe the 39's were starting to reach the troops? This is #4690 for 1940, so maybe not as urgent by then.

Pictures of the barrel shank and a stockmakers mark.

Nice Finn 91, MM.

I picked up a Finn 91 a couple of years ago. It was made by New England Westinghouse. I think that it was issued to the troops, as it is not nearly as nice looking as yours. The muzzle was counterbored, but is a dead on shooter.

That is a wonderful rifle. It looks to be nearly new condition.
