Military rifle competition

Post by PeterN2 » Tue Jun 13, 2006 2:25 pm

Our club had a 100 yard military rifle competition on Sunday. The course of fire was 15 rounds deliberate and a 1 minute rapid fire on the centre scoring rings of a Figure 11 target. The 2 scores were then added together to get a total score. I used my No4 Mk2 of 12/54 vintage. There was a good few entries. Surprisingly, I came out the winner. :D

This is my deliberate target. Not the best on the day, but not far away.

There was also a Lever Action competition. I don't have one of those, but borrowed a friend's Winchester M94 in .44 Mag. The course of fire was 20 rounds to count. I put a couple in the white to start with, but didn't do too badly after that. Even more surprisingly, I won that one as well. :D I scored 163.1 and the runner up scored 163.0. The chap who came second was using a .38-55. My friend followed in third place on 153. He was a bit dischuffed that I beat him with his own rifle. :)

So Sunday was a very good day for me.

Nice shooting Peter, get some entries like that into the MAH Summer comp and you should do really well :D

Which range did your club use for the comp?

Aint it a bummer when someone outshoots you with your own rifle!

Peter, It was your day...congrats!

The only competition I've scheduled is in September and since I've been unable to get much range time lately I don't think I'll do very well...for me practice is paramont.

Regards, Brad

Pickering

The range was the club range at Pickering. This a view from the 200 yard firing point.

Targets?

Post by Niner » Wed Jun 14, 2006 10:58 am

I find the targets interesting. The top target looks like the inside core of a 100 yard target that I find plentiful here in the US. On my target that diameter would be 8 inches.

Your bottom target has an extra ring on the outside and in the top corner it looks like it says Precision Pistol Target Practise.

Could you tell us something about the targets as to size and explain the choice of the bottom one.

Targets

Post by PeterN2 » Wed Jun 14, 2006 4:37 pm

Thanks for the comments gents.

Niner, the targets are what the chap who organised the competition brought.

The top target is an 8 inch black with a 2 inch bull and 1 inch V bull. The other rings are 1 inch wide. This just the black from a PL7 target.

The other target is marked as a PL7 25m precision pistol target. The dimensions of the black is the same as the other one. The target size is 14 inches wide by 17 1/2 inches high. I have a full size PL7 which is marked as a UIT 50m & 25m precision pistol target. This has rings going down to 1 point is 21 inches wide and 22 inches high.

Regards

Peter.

Thanks Peter. Looks like either of those targets would work for our Summer shoot as long as you didn't count the outside ring on the largest one and mangaged to get all your countable shots in the black on the other.
