My speculation would be that it's a throwback to medieval times when the Kings throne was larger and on a slightly higher level than the queens. We all know what traditionalists those highlanders are.
Adam, I take it netty is the scots version of dunny, any idea of its derivation ?
Niner, very nice range. Are your benches that close together for a reason ? We seem to prefer a bit more space out here.

Yes Dave, you do see a few military rifles at ranges all over the world, and they are more interesting (please excuse the expensive go faster item at right rear)

Of course facilities are not absolutely necessary for an enjoyable day

I do feel good weather does help though

The power of accurate observation is frequently called cynicism by those who don't have it.

It's not that we like them close together
Woftam, it's more a case of the owner of the range being able to accomodate everybody and his brother who come out certain times of the year to practice for hunting season. It means more money for his pocket during two or three months out of the year. But...most of the time we regular year round gun nuts use the next table to were we setup to hold our various weapons and ammo.
Notice I'm using both table 8 and 9 in this photo.

FARM26.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y183/w ... rand26.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y183/w ... FARM26.jpg in new zealand you can still shoot semi-auto for club use or hunting or just private use ie down the back of farm., . here in australia you are not allowed to own any semi-auto rifle , rim or centre fire to use at a range . to own a semi-auto rifle it must be part of your work, ie farmer or pest controler/ culler.
Here are a few mates out for a shoot this last weekend
this was our collectors accociation dress up shoot WW1 and WW2. Too many ruskies for my likeing.

More amenities,
It was a bit cool last Sunday so the fire 'pot' was lit.
On the wall are the targets so that everyone can have a good look without upseting the scorers.

Nice (?) photos gents
Graeme netty is a North East England word which I also use as an abreviation for the internet as a lot of its purpose seems to be shite related as well.
In Scotland it was unimaginatively called the shite hoose, privvy was also used as was the trench and Izal's abode.
At least waterproof toilet paper was good at not going soft in a damp outside shitter but is was absolutely useless for its intended purpose of wiping ones arse.
Nothing wrong with the Sunday Post mind, softish paper but waterproof print so you didn't get the headlines across your bum.
OK I know its OT so I've moderated myself.
