Canon Rebel T7

I had a birthday and some money in gift cards ... family gives me Amazon gift certificates instead of actual picked out presents for birthdays and Christmas. This works out fine and I appreciate the gift and well wishes. So... I got the notion that I wanted to see how a new Canon T7 would compare to the Sony A65 that I got some months ago. Both cameras are 24 megapixel and both have a APS-C sensor. The camera I purchased came with a Canon 18-55 auto focus lens as well as a 75-300 auto focus lens.

The T7 came out in 2018, about 7 years after the Sony 65. It's what is now at or near the starting end of the Canon DSLR line and there is upgraded slightly version offered as well. It's also relatively cheap as camera's go now days. A new camera and lenses and a case to put them in goes for right at $600 in the US. This is Canons well aimed shot at the mass market non professional.

The T7 has a few less programs than the Sony ...like the sunset vivid color one that I like with the Sony. It also doesn't have a view window that will start focusing as soon as you bring the camera to your eye. Nor does it have a rear view screen that articulates. It does have a feature that will move photos by blue tooth to your phone and probably you could manage some program to use your phone like a remote control. Not that I have any use for that feature. However, for the price, with the megapixels and and the size sensor, it's a lot of camera for the money. And that both cameras are mirror cameras that's a plus for me because auto film camera lenses auto focus with the cameras and there is no need for any managing coupler.

With the Rebel T7 you can use older Canon EOS film camera lenses with it as I just wrote. My old lenses seem a little better made and less plastic than the ones I got with the camera but the glass seems the same. Same can be said for the Sony lens I got with the used Sony. I've got better Minolta lenses... at least on the surface. I managed to buy a 100-400 lens of the Canon auto focus variety off Ebay for $30 and tried it out on a recent Gulf Shores trip. I'll post some more on that story another day.
