Post by awo425 » Mon Dec 05, 2005 1:25 pm

Hi there!

Santa was early this year and sent me those guns right down from Finnland:

One was converted to shoot 6,5x55 the other is still in 6,5x50SR.

They are mostly matching, one has a T30 floorplate+spring+follower.

I wonder if they are ex British service issue? Are there any Brtish unit markings on the top tang or anywhere else? I know alot of Arisaka rifles were sent to Finland from the UK after WW1.

Regards

Yes, shot with the gun in 6,5x50SR.

160grn Hornady RN bullet propelled by 32,5grn N140(same weight Varget is also good).

The gun does not like boat tails, Lapua 144grn FMJBT was all over the place.

The 6,5swedisch chambered gun failed to fire, firing pin not matching, therefore a littel too short for the military primers, CCI primes doo go pop.

Original rounds

Post by PeterN2 » Sun Dec 11, 2005 6:06 pm

The original load for the 6.5x50SR was a heavy round nose bullet introduced with the Type 30 rifle in 1897. It didn't last long before it was replaced by the pointed bullet with the introduction of the Type 38 rifle in 1905. A pic of some old round nose original rounds and the pointed bullet replacement.

I have seen a bunch of these in Finland. I have even shot one with older Finnish military issue ammo in the original Jap caliber.

What condition?

Post by PeterN2 » Thu Oct 12, 2006 5:24 pm

I was wondering what the condition was of the ones you saw in Finland. Not bad or beat up?
