Christmas presents /w pix!

Post by ThePitbullofLove » Wed Dec 28, 2005 12:55 pm

So on Christmas Eve, following a family tradition, I went over to the parent's house in anticipation of our family dining out.

My parents were at a friend's house when I arrived, so I placed my gifts under the tree and noticed a wrapped up rifle under the tree. I assumed, as it was long, and untagged, that it was a Mosin 91 that my brother had been scoping out at a local shop.

I was wrong.

When it was time to open Christmas gifts, it turns out the rifle was for me!

Turns out if was a gift from my brother, and Argentine 1891 that I had spied locally several months ago, got excited about, but was gone a few days later when I returned.

She's all matching, about 99% blue, with a gorgeous tiger striped stock that has a few minor handling dings. She's unsanded and retains numerous cartouches, has excellent fire blued parts, and really nice deep bluing.

The bore was a bit cruddy, but luckily, a quick cleaning revealed a shiny bore, and when I took her out for a spin the day after Christmas, she not only shot well (all in the black at 100 taking a 6 o'clock hold), but the post shoot cleaning revealed a perfect bore! I was amazed that the sights weren't putting rounds way high at 2 and 100 yds.

She's got a ground crest, as many do, and the only real issue is that the previous owner put the barrel band on backwards, and when he couldn't get it to fit correctly, used a screwdriver to try to drive the band on, causing a few deep dings in the band that cause it to bind on the stock and prevent removal. I'm going to order a new band, and I'll probably have to cut this band off :|

Lesse...it's a Lowe. Anything else I'm missing? ah...pictures!

Tiger striping is much more striking in person.

Shot it with some '78 dated FN ammo. Performed very nicely.

Thanks, bro!

More pix!-

I also got another gun for Christmas...the parents picked me up an early 80's vintage S&W Model 19-4 .357 Magnum, 2.5" barrel.

A pretty good Christmas for me this year!

Christmas 2005

Post by TaosBob101 » Wed Dec 28, 2005 1:20 pm

After reading that 3 page thread on PB's site about guns and Christmas, I don't know if I should post any

But I will.... have to find them at home not where I'm currently at. Read:work. I'm mulling over a Hensoldt4x scope & mount setup for my FMP 7.62mm with some $$$ I have hid. Due to a family situation, my wife and I decided to not spend anything and have a few people over for dinner that would of not normally had a Christmas dinner.

Arms and Support stuff I can get later in '06

But I did get a re-furbed M44. Broke my rule about only collecting Finn Mosin's ;)

Anyway Mr Pitbull, who bought all that for you ?? Must be on somebody's "A" list ?

My brother bought me the Mauser, and my parents got me the Smith.

Since my dad got back into gun collecting a few years ago, when I dragged him to a gun show and then to the range, firararms are a frequent gift for Christmas & birthdays in my family...except for mom...she prefers jewelry!

I didn't get a milsurp this year

Post by Niner » Wed Dec 28, 2005 11:42 pm

Wish I had, but no milsurps. But..... I got a new surround sound system for a tv that was too old to connect it to in my personal gun-book-computer-room. However, that was no problem in that it gave me an excuse to replace my ten year old tv. Sony makes some good tv's now days. Watched a movie tonight with the surround sound. Just like at the real movies!

Older TV's need a converter...

Post by spearedum » Mon Jan 02, 2006 12:54 pm

.. so be informed the "new analoge" TV's on sale will need a converter to receive the mandated digital TV broadcasts. Now, the connverters are expencive, but I asssume  by the time the change occurs the price will drop on the converts.

The Loewe Mauser's are all antique, and some of the DWM's are pre 1899 as well. My 1st. M91 was a DWM sportirized stock rifle all matching execpt for the stock and butt plate. It had a dark bore, but with much cleaning it came out shiney.

Most of my mil serps are Argentine with the execption of my .308 FR-8. I love the Spanish contract Mauser's allthough I don't like the 7.65X53 round. It is hard to find and expensive, and some of the mil surp ammo is trash.

Now, the 7mm's would be a better mil surp for me, so I'm looking for some 7mm mil surps allong with all Swedes being up there on my list; I would love to have an all matching Swede M94!

Thanx Dante' :CA:
