Nice Carbine
I have the same FN Carbine that you do. I've had it about 8 years. Mine came with a split hand guard. I found one at a small local gun show last weekend. The guy who had it had no idea what he had. Cost me $5.00. The only info I've found is the Shotgun News ad showing the U.S. importer as SOG International. I know a guy that has 2 of them 1 in .30-06 and the other in .308. I saw an Aussie post on another site in 12/03. W.D. Ball's book shows the FN Model 30 Short Rifle under Columbia, obviously related to our carbines . The FN Carbine is shown as a "Dutch Carbine". This is all I've found in 8 years of looking.
It looks like you have a Columbian FN Model 1950 short rifle (in .30-06) or a Model 30 short rifle (in 7x57mm). I don't personally know much about them, but comparing your photos to those in Ball's Mauser Military Rifles of the World 3rd ed. it appears yours has been cut down at some point. The length between the bands just doesn't look right. Ball says the 1950 is supposed to be 43.0" over all and the barrel is supposed to be 22.75". For the 30 the over all length is 43.25" and the barrel is 22.5". Also, in all the photos in Ball the 1950 and 1930 have a stright bolt.

Look under "Morocco"
The answer to the question is on page 229 of Ball's book. "Possibly a M1950. This carbine was produced in .30-06 and .308" He goes on to say his only info is they were used to arm the Moroccan Gendarmerie. Yours has the Colombia crest and mine has no marking on the receiver ring per the Moroccan photos. My receiver bridge is marked ".30" as the Colombia version was. It appears to be a standard model carbine version of the FN M1950 short rifle available for export.

Cabine Question
Look at the second picture in the orginal Post. I think we've expanded Ball's data base.
