Muzzle cover

Post by PeterN2 » Wed Aug 30, 2006 5:45 pm

I was at the range a couple of weeks ago when a chap came up to me and asked if I wanted an old gunslip. He had been given it but didn't want it. Being a Yorkshireman, owt for nowt is a good deal so I said yes. After he gave it to me he said he had found the item below stuck in the end of the gunslip and he said I could have that also as he didn't want it.

It has had a bump and is about Martini-Henry size.

A nice item to add to the collection at the right price.

Regards

Peter.

Peter,

The object may be "about Martini-Henry size", but with the slot opposed to the 'bump', I suspect it may be a muzzle cap for a Lee-Metford/Lee-Enfield (I think the 'slot' may be to engage the top of the bayonet lug, keeping the item firmly in place).

Just a guess.
