CLEANING A RUSY BORE

Post by RGRWJB » Sun Oct 29, 2006 12:57 pm

There are many ways to skin a cat. I have found this one to be best for my friends and me.

I would not suggest shooting out the crud. It really doesn’t do that. It will remove some of the crud but also press some down into the holes of the pits too. This will make it harder to remove later.

The technique I use is as follows:

1) Use a stainless steel bore brush dry to remove most of the crud (20 strokes). Swab out the bad stuff stirred but by the stainless steel bore brush with Kroil.

2) Let it soak one day with Kroil in it

3) Scrub again with the stainless brush (20 strokes) and wipe clean.

4) Then use Remington bore Clean or JB bore paste (they are both sort of the same stuff) with the stainless brush (20 strokes).

5) Wipe clean with Teflon based oil and it should be pretty clean. You will find the dark grooves will now be bright gray.

This method has been tested with a bore scope and we have found it works best.
