Carcano M41

Post by krinko » Sat Jan 27, 2007 10:21 pm

As part of my picture bombardment of the After Hours fora, I present some views of a nice Italian M1941 rifle.

The rear sight---

The muzzle---

The butt, showing the 1946 Terni cartouche, stamped over something else---

Despite the rear sight, the rifle shoots farly well----not a target rifle, elevation control is a bit difficult with the deep "V" notch of the rear leaf, but still fun.

I want one of those

Post by PeterN2 » Sun Jan 28, 2007 7:55 am

I have not been able to find a M1941 in the UK. I have wanted one for a while and given up on finding one. Carcano rifles are like Arisaka rifles in the UK, few and far between. I do have a 7.35mm M1938 though.

Regards

Peter.

Now that's a good looking Italian rifle

I've got an example. Not nearly as good looking....but I only paid $62.50 for it....so it's pretty good for what I paid for it.

A more interesting one to me, also paid only $62.50, is a Carbine M38 in German 8mm. It's short and light and uses the same kind of metal clips, more or less same, to load. The sights are simpler in design. Not my favorite, but I have fired it without it doing myself any harm. Both were a part of a batch of rifles that reportedly came out of North Africa after the war.

interesting backsight on that M41. I've never seen one quite like it.

The handguard seems to be inlet to allow the sight to be folded forward, what purpose does that serve?
