.22 Hornet

Well as far as non-milsurp guns go there is one new acquisition of mine that I can't wait to get out to the range. I recently was entrusted with the disposition of the guns belonging to my neighbor which were left to the widow. The man had many very nice items which of course I wished I could have kept for myself but alas....insufficient funds. Anyway the deal was I sell so many and keep one, sell some more and keep another and so on. I ended up with a few pieces that I otherwise would probably never have been able to afford.


The one most interesting to me is an Anschutz Modell 1433 .22 Hornet. It has a nice Leupold scope and came with several thousand handloads (as opposed to reloads) all carefully labeled with bullet, powder type and charge, primer, etc. The old man had obviously been loading these cartridges for a long time but apparently had not gone out to shoot them. I have always wanted a Hornet and now I have one with dozens of load variations to try out.


Some of the boxes have bullets which are loose in the case neck and I assume these are the .223 type rather than .224.


I will report on the results as soon as I can get to the range. I have several milsurps that haven't been fired yet and trying to arrange a shoot with my son and his friends. I need some big strong boys to shoot the K31s and Mosin M44s.
