I think this points to the value of life. But..... soldiers are supposed to risk their lives for their country. Made me wonder if when I was in Vietnam if they ever flew a flag at half mast or not in any of the major base camps when guys got killed in action. Somehow wonder if battalion size fire bases even had flags.

An impossible ponder but.........
I think (and this is MY opinion) that I would rather have the thoughts of my fellow unit members than a flag at half mast.
The dead of all the armed forces are honoured by their own and by their units. Here and in the UK, they are remembered every year on November 11th.
I do feel that there is far too much soppy and meaningless placing of flowers, candles, teddy bears, toys etc.,at the least opportunity, be it at the roadside or, in the case of The Princess Of Wales, in public places.
Remember in YOUR heart, but don't wear your heart on your sleeve. To me, that means nothing but modern day commercialism.
