Surplus Firearms Magazine
Picked up one today at the book store. Haven't seen one in a while, but there are some pretty good articles in this one. There's one not mentioned on the cover of every Marine sniper scope and rifle variation since WWI that's worth a read. And another on many versions of the Remington Rolling Block. Lots of photos as usual. Also a good piece on cast lead bullets in surplus rifles.
Niner, Thanks for posting this. I have been following this mag for some time but never thought to post it. Unfortunately they are less than accurate in their descriptions of Lee-Enfields. They seem to be unable to tell a Lee-Enfield from an Enfield. I guess that comes from spending too much time with those semi-automatic Trap-door Springfields in .223 Remington.
tonsper, you have a point about the title of the piece, but Garry James wrote the article, and I think the idea was that the No 4 was a product in an evolution and the various Marks and numbers are mentioned in rapid order leading up to it from Lee Medford, Lee Enfield, Enfield.
I think the best thing about this series of magazines is that over the years you pick one up and discover the condensed version of various weapons as history, how they function, how they shoot, and how to take them down into their major parts. I've bought a few different guns just because of the introduction these magazines give.
These magazines are still made up... I'd guess...of individual pieces produced for and published by Guns and Ammo magazine. Inside the front cover is a list of editors, etc., and it shows InterMedia Outdoors as a banner. Have no idea what all this means as to production.
This series is no substitute for expert published information about any weapon they create a story about. In fact James, as editor, also has another article in this mag with his advice to those seeking to take up the collecting hobby, and one of the things he says is" If I buy a gun, I buy a book about it to research not only the history of the piece but its technical particulars as well. This not only adds to the appreciation of your purchase but also can save a lot of problems".

MORE INFO PLEASE
Is it possible to subscribe to it? I looked on the Guns&Ammo site but can't find it. It would be nice to have an English written mag to read once in a while over here.
Niner, could you mail be a copy of any page with subscription details on it or a website. Thanks
