Crawling into one of these things is an experience. Makes you wonder what the sound could have been like when it fired. However there is a utube showing of the firing of 16 inch guns that doesn't look all that bad. It's of the USS Wisconsin.

- From a catwalk through one of the doors looking down at the breach of one of the guns.

- Once inside looking at a wall to the left with the rifle breaches on the other side.

- Under the back side of the turret and up through a hatch. The patch of white to the right side of the picture is the hatch opening.

From deep down in the ship
The shells and powder charges are hoisted up through the thick circle of steel ,called the barbett, that the gun rides upon and that also contains all the gun munitions down deep into the ship.

- The lift for moving shells upward to the guns.

- Projectiles fill in the space on a floor inside two concentic circles of walls. A vertical lift clasps them and lifts them to the guns. This is above the level of powder storage.
