New beer to me
Picked up a six pack of Steinlager. It's made in New Zealand and must be pretty much a regular beer in Australia too. Has a little bite to the first taste which I find pleasant. I like beer to taste like something different than water. The odd thing about it is that it comes in a bottle with 11.15 oz instead of the regular American 12 oz. Must be some kind of metric thing....330 ml.

STEINLAGER, OH NO
Actually it's not bad. Does have a bit of a following in aussie but it's usually amongst the expat Kiwi population. Not a regular in a lot of country areas, easier to find in the big smoke.
With regard to size I thought the 330ml was a pommy/euro thing. I ran across it more in the UK than I do out here. Most of our beers are based on the old schooner/middy glasses [425ml (15 fl oz) & 285ml (10 fl oz)].
Everything you wanted to know about aussie beer, and probably some stuff you don't want to know.

The power of accurate observation is frequently called cynicism by those who don't have it.

Was given a bottle of Whalers "Vanilla Rum" last week. SMOOOOTH !!!!
Just a hint of vanilla, slightly sweet. Can only have 1-2oz a week so it should last a good while!

Lowenbrau is good
The "real" Lowenbrau is made in Munich. For years in the US it was made here under license, by Miller Brewing if I'm not mistaken. But the US copy wasn't really even a good copy. Recently, some years after US production ended, we are getting the real Munich made import again.
Back in the late 60's, when I was in college, there was a bar that had imported Lowenbrau draft that several of my friends and I visited from time to time. You could have your own mug and leave it on a peg or you could just buy a mug for $1 and keep it as a souvenir. Mine has lost most of the emblem from the electric dishwasher over the years.

AH YES -
LAUGHINGBREW
Used to visit their 'Beerkeller' in Manchester in the early 70's - potent stuff. Was a very 'interesting' drive home over the moors back to Yorkshire on a Sunday Morning. Don't know how I made it sometimes
