Now here it is:

http://img98.imageshack.us/img98/4018/r ... tenzf0.jpg[/pic]

kh did a Quiz on it already, now here my observations:

It is based on a Ishevsk made 1944 M44, as evident by tang stamp and early, non self locking bayo assembly.

Most numbers mach, barrel, boltbody, buttplate, mag floorplate and Stock( no visible so goo but the whole barrel number is stamped across the underside of the buttstock right behint the sling slot) and also the cocking piece hat the lat two digits of the serial.

Bolthead is stamped with two numbers, non match, one is outlined.

Conneckting piece is also mismatch.

The full serial is also written inside the handguard by pencil.

There is a second set of numbres on the left hand side of the barrel, partially unter the woodline. Thin numbering looks exactly like the one, I found on a DDR made M91/30 replacemanet barrel.

There was a lot of sand under the handguard and under the barrel.

Circle in a square stamp on barrel, receiver and boltbody.

Now, who has some more egyptian M44 to compare this one to????????

Chris

I CAN HELP WITH THE SAND CHRIS!

Hi Chris, how does the bayonet lock? What type of wood is the stock? it looks almost like a laminated stock in your pic.

Thats a really nice find you have there BTW .

Is the rifling good?

I am only a little bit envious....

..honest

The bayonette is of the old locking style, you have to manualy pull the locking ring forward, to get it over the muzzle.

With the later design you just flip the bayo forwart and the upper "ear" of the bayo stud elevates the locking ring over the muzzle.

Somebody did peen the bajo to get a tighter fir of the locking ring, in the forward position it does not wobble at all!

Tha stock is the dark laminated version, if you look at the detail of teh stock bedding ,you can see the lines, where the layers of wood are glued.

The barrel is in good shape, will clean it next week.Should be a good shooter.

To my biggest surprise, the trigger is verry good, and even two stage!

The paint wil stay on the buttstock, its part of the history of that rifle.
