OT need a reamer

Post by awo425 » Sun Jun 15, 2008 11:04 am

Gentlemen, I need your help.

I have a nice Carcano in 7,35mm but bullets are not that common.

Got some left but no resupply in sight.

Since I swadge down bullets for my 9mm Bronwing long pistols I would like to do the same for the 7,35mm Carcano(.308" down to .300")

Problem is, I can not find adjustable reamers small enough to make my own die.

Anybody know where to get a .300" fixed reamer in the UK???

I take it you gentlemen are talking about making your own die and you have the machine tools to build the die. I would find it hard to beleive that there are no machine tool supply houses around in Europe. If not contact a US supply house for chucking reamers. I am sure the will ship to EU.

Either buy an adjustable reamer,a 7.6 m.m. reamer, find some one with a lathe who will bore it out or drill it 7.5 m.m. and hone it the rest of the way with emery cloth wrapped around a piece of dowel, which is what I do.

I would also suggest you slug the barrel to find what size it actually is rather than what you think it is. There is no point is sizing down a .308 bullet when the barrel is actually .308".

Also NEI do a .300 mould.

Wanted to buy a adjusable reamer, but no luck so far :(

Slugged the barrel, groove at .302"

If nothing turns up, I will have to use the dowel/emery cloth method.

You will not get one from a place like machine mart or a DIY outlet you will have to hit the yellow pages and go to engineering tool suppliers. Try model engineering suppliers too.

You can get them in the UK.

Im not sure what you want to do are you saying you have the machine tools to make a die.

If you are looking for a honing reamer look at

www.jlindustrial.co.uk

lOOK ON PAGE 684W at flex hone tools.

If this is not what you are looking for let me know I may be able to point you in the right direction.

If you check on e bay for adjustable hand reamers there is usually quite a lot for sale not sure of the sizes though.

Also try

www.msdiscount.com

www.carbide-online.com

Why don't you get Lee to make you a push through size die to the diameter you want.

Thanks gentlemen!

I considdered Lee for a custom die, but they are on the other side of the big pond and my lathe in down in the garage

I like to built stuff on my own, did that for teh 9mm Makakot to 9mm Browning long and teh resulst are real good.
