I took "Herman the German", my Gewehr 1871/84 11mm Mauser, out to the range yesterday and it performed so great that it rekindled my love affair with it. I posted one of those six inch Shoot-N-See targets on the target board at 100 yards. Six shots and I had no 9/10-ring left, just a big hole. I have never done that well before and doubt that I will be able to repeat it anytime soon. POA was 10 inches below the center of the target using the standard issue sights. I fired these rounds from a bench rest with front support only.

My bullets were a 10:1 wheelweights/tin alloy cast in a Lyman 446110 mould. This dropped a 375 gr bullet. I sized them in my Lyman sizer and lubed them with RCBS rifle bullet lube and then rolled them around in that stinky Lee alox concoction. These were loaded up with 25 gr of H4198 under a 3 gr clump of dacron fillers with a .060 veggie wad under the bullet. I seated the bullets and added a moderate crimp in a separate operation with my Lee seating die. Used resized .348 Winchester brass from Buffalo Arms with Winchester LRM primers.

Thats a good bit of shooting with the old girl AJ, the tiger stripe wood on her looks very pretty too. I think the 71/84 is one of my favourite Mauser rifles!

Time to go into photo bucket for pics of my 71/84, i feel a post coming on
