West German water bottle
Here is an unusual water bottle used by the West German Federal Border Force, (Bundesgrenzschutz).
It has a felt lined cover with a double bottle top opening. A cup fits onto the bottom of the bottle and it has plastic insulation on the lips to prevent a burnt mouth.

cool looking but does it just snap on to your belt by a ring or can you thread a belt threw it.

It looks to me like you can either pass a belt through the loop with the popper or use the snap hook to fit it to the bread bag (or its equivalent) - so either at a guess.stripperclip wrote:cool looking but does it just snap on to your belt by a ring or can you thread a belt threw it.

Sorry SC overlooked your reply, but i agree with Toms comment, either way would do.
It is actually a heavy water bottle to carry, IMO, as the combined caps are fairly heavy. Having said that the big cap makes easy access to clean the bottle out thoroughly.

I noticed the larger opening and thought that would be a good feature to have.

Shows Uncle Sam's influence-we adopted the canteen (as we say) with cup fitting on the bottom) in 1910 or so. I went
through BCT in 1967, my canteen was marked 1918. I like the wide mouth, probably easy to insert ice cubes on a
hot summer's day. Since this is West German, probably designed to hold Kaffee or Tee on a cold winter's day while
in some OP watching the Iron Curtain.

I don't know if I would have liked that design back in the bad old days. The Vietnam era plastic canteen worked just fine. No cover or cup. The top was attached with a strong plastic strap so you couldn't drop the cap in the mud. And the small mouth made it harder spill and nobody really wanted to look down inside to see if anything was growing in it anyway. All you needed was a D ring to hook through the same strap that connected the top and you would just attach the canteen, and a few others like it, to your gear somewhere and you were good to go.
